What are County Commissioners?
The Trumbull County Commissioners are the general administrative body for county government. They are the county government taxing, budgeting, appropriating, and purchasing authority. They hold title to county property. Commissioners also have a myriad of other responsibilities including hearing and ruling on annexations, road vacations, approving drainage improvements through the petition ditch process, establishing water and sewer districts and making improvements, providing for solid waste disposal, and approving tax abatements.
Commissioners also appoint department heads of offices for which they have responsibility: 911 Center, Office of Elderly Affairs, Purchasing Department, Human Resources Department, Sanitary Engineer/Water Sewer Accounting Department, Job and Family Services, Child Support Enforcement Agency, Maintenance Department, Vehicle Maintenance Department, Building Inspection, and Dog Kennel; and also serve on some boards such as the Board of Revision, County Records Commission, Data Processing Board, and the Planning Commission.
It is the non-statutory duties of county commissioners that make them different from other county elected officials. They must take a broad view of actions necessary to make the county a better place to live and work. They are active in promoting public/private partnerships in human services, economic development, health, and infrastructure development. Also, they take an active role in improving the environment, promoting job-training programs, and improving agriculture in their counties.
- Trumbull County Commissioners' Offices are open five days per week - Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- The Commissioners conduct weekly work sessions on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. a general Commission Session is held during which county business is discussed and voted upon. Both of these sessions are held in the County Administration Building, 160 High Street NW, 5th Floor, Warren, OH 44481.
- Trumbull County currently has a half percent sales tax (piggyback tax) in effect. Out of 88 Ohio counties, Trumbull County ranks 12th largest in population.
- Trumbull County Commissioners' immediate office includes six full-time employees. This does not include any of the offices under their jurisdiction - mentioned above.

- Trumbull County Commissioners have adopted a formal Resolution of Intent to Conduct an Internet Auction for the Sale of Unneeded, Obsolete or Unfit County Personal Property in Calendar Year 2003 accessible online, pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 307.12; and plan to adopt this resolution on an annual basis.
