
Judge Sarah Thomas Kovoor was elected to the Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, General Division, in 2024. Her journey exemplifies the American Dream: born into an Orthodox Christian family in Kerala, India, she moved to Rye, New York, at age seven with her family.
Judge Kovoor earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. After graduation, she and her husband relocated to Northeast Ohio. Judge Kovoor has called Trumbull County home for over thirty years. She attended the University of Akron School of Law, obtaining her law degree in 1998 and joined the Ohio Bar that same year.
Judge Kovoor began her legal career as an assistant prosecutor in the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office. In 2001, she established her own law firm and practiced privately until 2024, specializing in criminal defense, domestic relations, constitutional law, and defending clients’ civil rights.
She maintains active membership in the Ohio State Bar Association, the South Asian Bar Association, and the Trumbull County Bar Association. Judge Kovoor has also served as president of both the Howland Rotary and the Trumbull County Republican Women’s Club.
Known for her adventurous spirit and love of food, she enjoys international travel and discovering new cultures. Judge Kovoor is committed to her family and community in Trumbull County. In her leisure time, she enjoys being with her children, grandchildren, and her cherished Bichon Frises, Lily and Daisy.
