How to Apply
To qualify for a CCW in Ohio, you must:
To qualify for a CCW in Ohio, you must:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Complete the required 8-hour course to obtain your Certificate of Competency.
- Schedule online
Do NOT bring a firearm with you when applying for or picking up your license!
New applicants will need
- A completed application. You can find the application on our website or you can pick one up in our lobby.
- Training Certificate (certificates are valid for 3 years from date of issue).
- A 2x2 photo for on the application.
- A valid driver’s license or state ID.
- $67.00 application fee- cash, money order, debit card or credit card. If you have lived in Ohio for less than five years, the fee will be $77.00 (We appreciate exact change).
- If you are in the Military or a Veteran your fee will be waived if you provide a DD-214 (must be member 2 or 4 form) or FORM 522. This form must specifically document weapons/firearms experience and state an honorable discharge. This document also serves as your training certificate.
- Self-addressed stamped envelope.
Renewals will need
- A completed application. You can find the application on our website or you can pick one up in our lobby.
- A valid driver’s License or state ID.
- Current/expired CCW license.
- $50.00 renewal fee-cash, money order, debit card or credit card (credit card fee will be charged). If you have lived in Ohio for less than five years, the fee will be $60.00 (We appreciate exact change).
- If you are transferring from another county, you will need a 2x2 photo.
- If you are in the Military or a Veteran your fee will be waived if you provide a DD-214 (must be member 2 or 4 form “honorable discharge”) Military ID, proof of “Active Duty”, or Retired Law Enforcement Credentials.
- Self-addressed stamped envelope. (If you want your CCW card mailed)
Note
- If your CCW is expired, you do not need to take the class again.
- Renewals do not need the 2x2 photo unless you are transferring from another county.
- All applications go through criminal history checks. Please keep in mind that the application process can take up to 45 days. If and when the application is approved, we will contact you to pick the card up or mail it to you in the envelope you provide.
Emergency License

Name Change
- If you have a name change, you will need to schedule an appointment online.
Lost or Stolen License
- If your CCW license is lost or stolen, please call (330) 675-4040.
Address Change
- If you need to change your address, please print this form and mail it to Trumbull County Sheriff’s CCW Office.
